Athena, la luchadora de Garland, Texas, se ha consolidado como una de las mejores jóvenes de la lucha libre independiente americana y no sería extraño verla en el 2013 con el título de Shimmer en su poder. En Shimmer su rivalidad con Mercedes Martínez la catapultó a las altas esferas y en la actualidad se encuentra en una nueva rivalidad con Ayako Hamada. Athena además ganó el torneo «Queen of Queens 2012» y debutó en NCW Femmes Fatales y Shine además de luchar en WSU en los primeros meses del año. En el «Queen of Queens» ganó derrotando en primera ronda a Su Yung, en semifinales a Christina Von Eerie y en la gran final a Jessicka Havok. En NCW Femmes Fatales debutó en el show número 10, luchado en la primera parte del mismo en un combate four way por el number one contender, donde derrotó a Angie Skye, Cheerleader Melissa & X-Cute Sweet y en la segunda parte tendría una oportunidad por el título pero perdería ante Kalamity. En Shine debutó en el evento numero 5 venciendo a Ivelisse Velez. En WSU ganó a Leva Bates en el quinto aniversario para clasificarse para la J-Cup 2012 donde ganaría en primera ronda a KImber Lee y en semifinales perdió ante Brittney Savage. En Shimmer empezó el año ganando su rivalidad con Mercedes Martínez tras vencerla en el evento 45, en el 46 perdió ante Nicole Matthews y en los volúmenes 47 y 48 volvería a la senda de los triunfos tras derrotar a Sassy Stephie & Ray. En los eventos de octubre, Athena tuvo una oportunidad al título pero perdió ante Saraya Knight en el volumen 49, en el 50 ganaría a Tomoka Nakagawa, y en los volúmenes 51 y 52 perdería con Kana y con Ayako Hamada comenzando asi la rivalidad con esta última.
