El Generico, el luchador de Canadá pero con gimmick mexicano ha dado un paso de gigante en el 2012 y a estado a un paso del número uno si no fuera porque su compatriota Kevin Steen ha estado inconmensurable. El año del Generico ha sido genial siendo campeón de diferentes títulos en tres contintentes distintos, en USA ha sido campeón del título de los pesos pesados en PWG hasta marzo cuando perdió en una triple amenaza ante Kevin Steen que se proclamaría campeón y Eddie Edwards. En Europa ha sido campeón durante tres meses en la empresa WXW de Alemania del título Unified World Wrestling, que conquistó en mayo derrotando a Big Van Water y perdería en agosto ante Axel Tischer. En esta empresa también ganó el torneo Carat Gold de 2012 derrotando en la final a Tommy End. En Japón fue campeón del título de KO-D Openweight de la emrpesa DDT tras vencer a Kota Ibushi en septiembre, pero le perdió en diciembre ante Kenny Omega. Además El Generico ha luchador de forma destacada en Evolve donde ha tenido una gran rivalidad con Samuray del Sol dando combates impresionantes, en Dragon Gate USA  donde ha tenido grandes luchas ante Sami Callihan o haciendo pareja junto a Samuray del Sol contra Genki Horiguchi & Ryo Saito o AR Fox & Cima. También ha sido un habitual de PWG donde llegó a la final del torneo DDT4 junto a Willie Mack para perder ante SuperSmash Brothers y participó en el torneo BOLA 2012 donde perdió en primera ronda ante Adam Cole. Por último decir que El Generico regresó a ROH en Final Battle 2012 para caer derrotado en un combatazo ante Kevin Steen.
