Rich Swann, el luchador de Baltimore, ha tenido un buen año 2012 pero no ha seguido su brillante trayectoria del 2011 quedándose un poco estancado en su evolución en el mundo de la lucha independiente. Empezó el año con una oportunidad por el título Junior Heavyweight de CZW pero perdió ante Sami Callihan. En Evolve 10 junto a Chuck Taylor en Ronin ganó a Super Smash Brothers. Tras un tour de dos meses por Japón regresó sin mucha suerte ya que en el fin de semana de Wrestlemania 28 perdió en los combates de las tres funciones de DG USA, tras otro tour por Japón en julio regresó a DG USA donde consiguió vencer a Chuck Taylor por DQ pero perdería un día mas tarde los títulos Open The United Gate junto a Ricochet al perder ante Cima & AR Fox. Tras esto se tuvo sus mas y sus menos con Chuck Taylor en un feudo que acabó con la victoria de Swann en el show de DGUSA Freedom Fight 2012 que sería el último show del año de la empresa. También tuvo otro feudo importante en CZW esta vez ante Shane Strickland, ganando Swann el último combate entre ambos en Cage of Death 14, también último show del año de CZW. Por último y esto es una de las mejores noticias del 2012, Swann consiguió la victoria en la primera eliminatoria por el título de Evolve, en el show 18 de la empresa al vencer en un fatal four way a Ar Fox, Jon Davis & Masada.
