Steen es campeón desde el 12 de mayo de 2012 campeón de los pesos pesados de ROH, lo que suman 233 días consecutivos como campeón, además durante el año 2012 ha sido campeón de los pesos pesados de PWG durante 259 días, campeón por parejas de la misma empresa por 145 días y en menor medida es campeón de los pesos pesados de 2CW por 191 días. Además todos estos logros los ha conseguido dando muestras del gran luchador que es, entre sus rivales en ROH tenemos a Eddie Edwards, Davey Richards, Mike Mondo, Roderick Strong, Homicide, Eddie Kingston, Rhino, Jay Lethal, Michael Elgin, Mike Bennett o su último rival en Final Battle 2012, El Generico con el que dio un espectacular combate de escaleras que duraría mas de 26 minutos. En PWG caería derrotado en el último show del año «Mystery Vortex» el pasado 1 de diciembre a manos de Adam Cole, pero por el camino quedaron defensas con éxito ante rivales como El Generico, Eddie Edwards, Michael Elgin, Ricochet, Willie Mack o Brian Cage. Además su título por parejas le debieron dejar vacante por lesión de Super Dragon. Además durante el año el luchador canadiense se ha enfrentado a ex-luchadores de WWE como Spike Dudley, Lance Storm, Matt Hardy o Tommy Dreamer en las diferentes empresas en las que ha estado. Quizas lo mas sorprendente del año en el bando negativo de Kevin Steen fue el no poder conseguir el título de Chikara ante Eddie Kingston y el caer en primera ronda del BOLA 2012 ante Ricochet. Pero sin duda el año de Kevin Steen ha sido magnifico dando grandísimas luchas y se merece este número 1.
