BJ Whitmer, el luchador de Kentucky, ha regresado a la escena independiente de manera excepcional en este 2012 haciéndose un hueco en empresas tan importantes como ROH, AIW, o AAW. Además ha sido finalista de dos torneos la 2ª copa Heartland de la empresa HWA donde derrotó en primera ronda a Michael Elgin, en cuartos a Alex Colon, en semifinales a Jake Crist para caer en la final ante Gerome Phillips. En el torneo JT Lightning llegó a la final tras derrotar en primera ronda a Colt Cabana, en cuartos a Bobby Beverly, en semifinales a Brian «Spanky» Kendrick y en la final caer en una triple amenaza ante Eric Ryan, combate en el que también estaría ACH. En AIW conquistaría el título Intense en julio tras ganar a Bobby Beverly, campeonato que todavía luce. En AAW llegó a luchar por el título ante Silas Young aunque acabaría perdiendo y últimamente ha hecho pareja con Sami Callihan. En ROH ha formado una pareja firme y estable junto a Rhett Titus y han tenido una rivalidad interesante con WGTT (Shelton Benjamin & Charlie Haas) y hasta han llegado a disputar un combate por el título por parejas ante SCUM (Steve Corino & Jimmy Jacobs) el pasado mes de noviembre en las grabaciones para televisión de la empresa.
